Companies that make printers always suggest that you use their brand of ink in their printers. Some manufacturers go to the point of warning consumers about problems that recycled ink cartridges or generic ink can cause. It is important to determine if such claims are true or if printing manufacturers are simply trying to make more money.

The truth is, it's a little bit of both. Inkjet printers work by spraying very small drops of ink onto the paper. These dots combine to make the prints and pictures that you end up with.

High quality ink is important to overall print quality because the small size of dots used in inkjet printing need to be positioned precisely. If not, the result will be less clear.

Printers are sophisticated machines that use advanced technology to work. All their components need to be able to function together. Companies that make printers produce their own brand of ink and paper that are designed to work together, offering the best results possible.

Using ink and printers from different brands will result in a lower quality of printing. In order to prevent bad results, make sure that the printer and the ink you are using are designed to work together.

This does not mean that the ink made by your printer's company is the only ink that is safe to use in that printer. Cartridges can be refilled with ink and so-called generic cartridges are available for purchase. Remember that any such alternative must be compatible with your model printer.

The printer companies make the majority of their profit on the ink cartridges, so they're not going to tell you this.

Print quality can be preserved if you are sure that whatever ink, cartridge, or any other component you use is designed to work with your specific printer. Your printing will turn out great and you will save money over more expensive ink, too.
