Fathers Day Card Ban in Schools

Because most schools in Scotland feel they will offend children of single mothers and lesbians, they have banned all Fathers day cards. The public was not aware of this until Father's Day, when many fathers did not receive the homemade items they had come to expect. Many larger schools in cities like Glasgow and Edinburgh are using this practice out of concern for single parent/same sex households, despite many who don't agree.

Those championing family rights say this policy is ridiculous and doesn't pay proper respect to fathers. One fourth of all British children live in a single parent home, according to an April report. Over the last 20 years, this rate has doubled. Schools and teachers claim that they are just trying to be culturally aware.

After the launch of series of measures with different political correctness, including removal of Christian references from holiday greeting cards, while still allowing students to make Mother's Day cards and crafts, Father's Day cards has been banned.

The breakdown of the family and divorce are cited as the reasons for the change. Teachers now need to be aware that not all children are living in two-parent households. As divorce becomes more and more common, schools need to become more aware of its impact.
