To those who have never tried yoga, it may seem a daunting task. Scantily clad men and women with the ability to contort their body in seemingly impossible positions may be enough to put people off before they even attempt to try any of the postures.
Yoga is one of the oldest systems of self-development and its gentle approach can help even the most inflexible of bodies to gently yield and limber up. The key to Hatha yoga is that it is non-competitive and progress comes through practice rather than forcing the body into extreme positions when its not ready. Yoga is more than an exercise regime; those who study this discipline say that it simply becomes a way of life.
This exercise will surely bring out noticeable effects. Better flexibility, stronger muscles and an inner tranquility that projects outward naturally. It is a gradual change that the difference cannot be pinpointed immediately. Still, your friends and your family will surely notice that something is different.
The postures are called asanas and the breath is called pranayama, together they help the practitioner to relax the mind and body at will, have increased vitality, flexibility and feeling calm in a crisis. In todays manic society, feeling calm and inwardly confident can help the student to survive lifes stresses and strains.
Practicing yoga with intent and focus daily brings mental clarity and confidence. This exercise can be done any time depending on the person involved. Early morning hour is the most suitable time to practice yoga. Some people experience achy and stiff bodies during the early hours of the day so practicing yoga may come later on the day.
Everyone, may it be young or old, can practice yoga. There are no limits on who can and who cannot. The most important aspect required is the desire and intent to learn. Disability or age may slow down the movement but progress can still be achieved even if the movement is minimized.
It is ideal and beneficial for starters to attend yoga classes. There, they will experience the guidance of experts when it comes to the proper posture alignment. They will also be taught about the benefits of each individual stance. The instructors can also demonstrate each stance from early stages to higher stages.
In some cases and specific circumstances, like pregnancy, some postures are to be avoided. The instructor should be aware of these conditions and more importantly in case of illnesses as to insure the safety of the person involved.
Yoga is a nice practice due to the fact that it can be done just anywhere and anytime. You can practice at home, at the office, the beach and even at the backyard, though it is expected that people passing by will surely take a curious glance.
