There are four brainwaves and each have their own distinctive pattern and benefit. An easy way to understand how they function is to think of each brainwave like a gear of a car. Beta is the highest gear (13-40 cycles per second), then there is Alpha (8-13 cycles per second), then Theta (4-7 cycles per second) and the lowest gear, Delta (0-4 cycles per second).
