Advice forums online become more and more popular every day on the web. Why is this the case? It's quite simple. Such websites allow us to be ourselves. They let us connect with others.
Whether you have just started a new job, just found out you're having a baby, or are arguing with your romantic partner- with the click of a button you're able to find someone that has been in the same situation. They may even be going through the same experience at the exact same time!
Take this a step further, and you get anonymous advice sites. The following points list some of the benefits anonymous advice sites have over traditional online forums.
1. Not all questions and problems are the same. Some questions can be rather embarrassing, and not having someone know who you are, let's you be free to ask what you want.
2. Secondly, a stranger isn't like your family and friends, they don't "sugar coat" their advice to you. A stranger has no personal connection with you, which offers really honest advice. What's even better is the number of people you can ask a question to, on an anonymous online forum. You can get a general consensus on what you should do by comparing posts. If most people don't agree with you, maybe you should take a hard look at your original stance.
3.Lastly, these sites do not replace the bonds between friends and family. Rather in some cases they can even protect those bonds. Getting personal advice from strangers can spare your loved ones unnecessary worry and concern. Anonymous advice sites are often used as "trial sites" for arguments with loved ones as well. Do strangers think you're in the right? Do they think you're blowing your situation out of proportion?Consulting with others before confrontation can often allow a more balanced view of the picture.
In closing, advice sites are a wonderful tool. They are however, in no way meant to be a replacement for therapy. Those afflicted with serious medical conditions should seek proper treatment.
