With most of these games you will need to install a plug-in on your computer in order to play.

Websites that offer free downloads may offer full games or truncated versions of some of the more popular and recent games so if you want to play the whole game you may have to pay for it. The problem with some of the free games that you can download is that the quality of the graphics may not be up to some of the other games. A lot depends on whether you are picky about how the graphics need to be or whether you just want to get on and play the game – that is not to say that all free downloadable games are below par, but it does mean that you may have to search harder for a really good free one.
