Sadly, the story is all too common: Instead of \"happily ever after,\" a couple is torn apart by an affair or financial troubles, and the two turn to a divorce as a quick solution to a messy problem. As the marriage ends, both parties end up paying a high cost both financially and emotionally.
In today's society, divorce has become commonplace. In the old days, people would get annulments, that would say that the marriage was never really valid and could be considered to have never happened. Today, however, people getting a divorce agree to end a marriage legally.
Some married couples mistakenly view divorce as a magic solution to their relationship problems. Yet in most cases this isn't so and more disturbing is that they often jump to divorce without knowing the high cost of divorce, financially or emotionally.
Many couples see divorce as quick and easily handled, but the reality is quite different; some divorces stretch out for a long time, with the average taking about two years.
Also, while the price of a divorce lawyer ranges widely, most experts would say that the average lies around $3,000 each for a one-day trial; again, more than many people would expect.
Along with the \"sticker price\" of the divorce, the husband and wife sometimes forget about the hidden fees. All of a sudden, each individual needs to find a new way to pay rental or mortgage payments. Auto and health insurance change. Alimony and child support can sometimes require large payments. Without warning, one's cost of living can go through the roof.
Beyond the dollars and cents, a great cost can be inflicted on a person mentally and emotionally as well. The very nature of divorce proceedings require attention be paid to the mistakes of the past, which reinforce the problems that caused the situation.
Another emotional cost a divorce process would be the avoidance of responsibility. At this phase, it is all too common to play the \"fault and blame\" game. Instead of taking responsibility of ones action, they result to blaming the other party to make themselves look as if they were the victim. In most cases this would only lead to feeling of helplessness and could easily slide to depression.
